The 9.6-acre heart of the former 1,000-acre plantation owned by Ulysses and Julia Grant is preserved at this National Historic Landmark. The site is significant for its association with the apparently "average" man who led the army that saved the Union, served two terms as president, and wrote one of the most important military commentaries of modern times. The property also includes the main house, summer kitchen, chicken house, ice house, and barn. The site was authorized on October 2, 1989.
